I installed it but had one slight problem. Because of the resolution of my screen I often increase the font size of webpages. I noticed that after increasing the font size, something would cause the font size to revert back to the original setting. I had loaded several extensions at once, and started uninstalling them one at a time. After uninstalling traction control the problem stopped.
I change text size too. The Firefox default behavior is that this setting is remembered separately for every tab. At this moment, it's difficult for me to imagine how could TC interfere with this. I'm also not quite sure, what is the situation in which you observe text size being changed when it shouldn't be? After clicking a link, possibly? This certainly hasn't happened in my testing...
I still use Netscape 7.1 often because I use the History console in Netscape that displays the title, web address, and time/date visited for all the history entries. In IE you can get the time/date information (rather cumbersomely) using the right mouse properties in the history sidebar. I never figured out why Mozilla/Firefox decided to replace this feature with a history sidebar from which it is impossible to get the date/time information.
For this reason I really like the Traction Control extension. It would be great if there were a way to extend it to view all history info (not just the current window) a la Netscape History console. Then I could finally retire my Netscape browser. (I tried and quickly abandoned Netcape 8.0 which is far inferior to both firefox and Netscape 7.1.)
The Firfox TC extension page states "- tcsay("what") function may be used from other XUL extensions for printf-dump-like debug logging." What does this mean? Does the extension have exposed interface that another extension could use to get the history information? If so how can one get access to information on how to use it?
I'm considering improving Traction Control so that it preserves its contents between sessions, but I'm not quite sure about doing this.
If what you need is just a proper history window and would enjoy using a traditional Netscape-style browser package, you might want to check out Seamonkey, which is an actively developed Mozilla's project. I suspect they have a History window like it used to be.
Also, Firefox 2.0, which is in development and expected to be released in the second half of this year, will have a window called "Places". This will most probably display both history and bookmarks with time information.
The tcsay() function displays any provided text as a message in the Traction Control's console. This can be an easy way of displaying control messages during extensions development. The reverse, extracting data from the console, is possible through reading Javascript properties of DOM elements in the console.
For the record: "Places" won't be ready for Firefox 2.0 (newsgroup post). It will probably be included in Firefox 3.0 (the first quarter of 2007, Firefox Product Release Roadmap). There might be some minor improvements to the history interface in 2.0, though.
Could this plugin possibly be interfering with Session Saver? Ever since I installed the latest batch of plugins (including this one), my Session Savor has not been working.
I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks!
Valerie
I have just installed Session Saver .2 from the Add-ons site and the extensions seem to work OK together.
What exactly is happening, and what should be happening instead?
Can you make the time customizable? I don't care for the seconds.
I might. I'll keep this in mind.
Putting it at the top of the tabbar is kinda visually disrupting for my browsing experience, I keep looking for the tabs at the top instead of at the middle of the browsing area. I read your comment that you dont want to think about putting it elsewhere in the window but I would like to have some option at least, top or bottom of the browsing area.
Also, putting TC's panel on the sidebar in conjunction with some other extensions (All In One Sidebar, that lets you move the sidebar from the left to the right and maybe other locations?) would make it much more flexible and at the same time get rid of the remaining slider bug visible when TC's panel is closed
Hi PA, it's possible that one day I'll try to add some functionality necessary for a sidebar. It's not trivial, but a number of persons suggested that in the past. Indeed not since I've put this proactive comment on Addons!
As of TC version 1.05, the misalignment bug with Firefox 2.0 is fixed. (If what you want is to disable the handle completely, there's a special hidden option for that.)
awesome tool, is there away to export the history to the text file?
Thanks. No, no text export. What would you be using it for?
Can you please map the apparition/hide of the traction control to the key ² or ` just under escape key (or custom key) to be more laptop friendly
it would helps a lot.
thanks!
This is a great add-on! I use it several times an hour. Could you please update it to work with 3.5?
For everyone else, until kse tmp updates it, it does seem to work with 3.5. .xpi files (Firefox extensions like this) are really just zip files with .xpi instead of .zip on them.
Within that is an install.rdf file, that's just a text file.
Within that is an 'em:maxVersion' value that's too low. If you change that to "3.5.*", and then open your edited .xpi file in FireFox, it works.
... or you can just go here if you trust a stranger: http://www.filesavr.com/tractioncontrol-106-fx
Help! my Traction Control stopped working with the 3.5.2 update, and I use it all the time! I'm lost without it!
Can you please fix it so it works again?
Thank you so much.
It's a great add-on.
